After the oaths of office were administered, Simko and board member Amy McLaughlin were nominated as president.

The results of the vote were John Dragotta, Lynn Kasics, Paula Taggart, Walsh and Simko himself voting for Simko. Conrad, Gonzalez, Ray Perez and McLaughlin herself voted for McLaughlin. Simko won with a 5-4 vote.

After the vote, Simko said, “I am honored to have been elected as president of the South Amboy Board of Education and humbled by the board’s confidence in my ability to lead during this exciting time for our district. With a new superintendent, several new board members alongside experienced veterans, and fresh board leadership, we have an unique opportunity to make lasting change that will define our district for years to come. The position is a new one for me, but my goal of improving South Amboy Public Schools for our students will never change. I look forward to continue pursuing this shared goal as board president alongside my fellow board members, Superintendent Jorge Diaz, district personnel and the greater South Amboy community.”

Kasics and Conrad were nominated for vice president. The results of the vote were Dragotta, Simko, Taggart, Walsh and Kasics herself voting for Kasics. Gonzalez, McLaughlin, Perez and Conrad himself voted for Conrad. Kasics won with a 5-4 vote.
