SAYREVILLE – Officials in Sayreville have adopted an affirmative marketing plan as part of an ongoing effort to meet affordable housing requirements.

The plan will apply to all developments that contain or will contain affordable units and rental units. The resolution states the regional marketing strategy is designed to attract buyers and renters of all majority and minority groups, and is intended to target potentially eligible individuals who are least likely to apply for affordable units in the region.

The plan was created because, according to the resolution, Sayreville is required to adopt a plan to ensure that all affordable housing units are affirmatively marketed to low- and moderate-income households, with preference to provide to disabled veterans, homeless veterans and family members who are primarily residential caregivers to disabled veterans, in accordance with the New Jersey Uniform Housing Affordability Controls.

Borough officials previously adopted an affirmative marketing plan in 2004. As a result of the new plan, the council adopted an ordinance repealing the earlier plan.

The council also adopted an ordinance adding new provisions to address the borough’s obligation to provide affordable housing with the intent of providing assurance that affordable units are created with controls on affordability over time and low- and moderate-income households will occupy the units.
