SAYREVILLE – After more than three decades of service, a longtime paraprofessional in the Sayreville School District will retire at the end of the school year.

Patricia Wisk, a paraprofessional at Sayreville War Memorial High School, will retire at the end of the 2017-18 school year, effective July 1. Wisk joined the district in 1981, according to Superintendent of Schools Richard Labbe.

The Board of Education honored Wisk’s retirement at a meeting on Feb. 20 and Labbe spoke about her service to the district at a March 6 meeting.

“It is with great affection and appreciation that we recognize the retirement of Patricia Wisk from Sayreville,” Labbe said. “Mrs. Wisk’s career as a paraprofessional began in 1981 and she served the students of our community in each and every school. During this time, she has been a valuable member of the Special Services Department, with countless students relying on her for her stability and support.

“Pat has displayed the highest level of professionalism and versatility, providing comfort and care for our youngest preschool learners and instructional assistance for our young adult learners at the high school level,” he said. “If you are fortunate enough to have had a conversation with Mrs. Wisk, or Pat as she prefers to be called, you will hear her recall her time in our preschool with the fondest memories. You will also hear her recall the joy she felt when she encountered these students years later during her assignment at the middle, and then later, at the high school levels.

“Having established a strong level of trust with so many parents, Pat was able to alleviate their fears as their children transitioned from building to building and grade to grade. Although Pat’s career is filled with highlights, she cherishes the opportunity she had to provide the support of services during the prom for one of her most beloved students. While she feels that leaving Sayreville for retirement is bittersweet, we simply commend and thank her for her outstanding service and wish her nothing but the best in the next chapter of her life.”
