The Historical Society of South Amboy invites residents to its sixth annual open house on April 28 at the South Amboy Senior Center, 108 South Stevens Ave., from noon to 3 p.m.
The event will give patrons a look at what South Amboy was like 100 years ago.
Entry to the event is $5 and all proceeds will go to the American Legion Post 62 to help rebuild their building that was dealt extensive damage during superstorm Sandy in 2012.
Speakers will arrive at 1 p.m. Randall Gabrielan will discuss the 1918 Morgan explosion that killed more than 100 people and forced the evacuation of South Amboy and Sayreville. Joyce Elyea will discuss the local impact of the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic.
This event is being held in conjunction with the City of South Amboy. Free hot dogs and other refreshments will be served.
