Many people helped to start Freehold community garden

I am writing to add a little background to your fine story on the Freehold Borough Community Garden (“Freehold Community Garden Reaches Milestone,” News Transcript, April 11).

The idea of a garden excited many townspeople who ultimately made it happen, but special thanks go to then-Councilman Marc Le Vine, Borough Administrator Joe Bellina, George Conway, our contact person for the Stavola family who allowed the use of their property for the garden for $1 a year, and the Master Gardeners.

I don’t recall the names of the many helpful public works employees, but they and unnamed others deserve our thanks for putting the community in the Freehold garden.  Long may it grow.
