Brookdale wins JUCO basketball title

Brookdale Community College capped a perfect men’s basketball season with a National Junior College Athletic Association Division 3 national championship.

Brookdale defeated Nassau Community College of New York, 70-57, to win the national title on March 17 at SUNY-Sullivan County in Loch Sheldrake, N.Y.

Brookdale closed the season with a 34-0 record –the program’s first undefeated season–and won the Lincroft college’s second national championship in basketball since 2013.

Brookdale was led by Matt Ringel, a sophomore forward from Marlboro, who ripped down an astounding 25 rebounds in the title game. He also scored nine points to earn the tournament’s MVP award.

Brookdale’s leading scorer in the championship game was sophomore Grant Goode of Matawan and a Saint John Vianney High School grad,, who finished with 20 points.
