Millstone Township officials will issue bonds for road improvements

MILLSTONE – Municipal officials are advancing a project to improve Millstone Township’s roads during 2018.

On May 16, members of the Township Committee introduced a bond ordinance that, if adopted, will provide an appropriation of $900,000 for the 2018 road improvement program. The ordinance authorizes the issuance of $617,500 in bonds or notes to finance part of the appropriation.

According to the ordinance, the road improvement program includes, but is not limited to, improvements to Red Valley Road, Indian Path, Gravatt Circle, Ely Harmony Road, Disbrow Hill Road and miscellaneous minor road and drainage repairs throughout the township, including all work and materials.

According to the ordinance, $32,500 will be made as a down payment on the improvements. A $250,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation will be used for the improvements to Red Valley Road.

In other business, committee members introduced a bond ordinance that, if adopted, will provide an appropriation of $310,000 for the acquisition of Department of Public Works vehicles and equipment.

The down payment for the DPW vehicles and equipment is $15,500, with $294,500 to be financed through the issuance of bonds. The vehicles and equipment include, but are not limited to, a back-hoe, a mid-range tractor and three Class II pick-up trucks.

A public hearing on both ordinances is scheduled for June 6. The committee may adopt the ordinances that evening.

And, committee members appointed Scott D’Amico to the position of temporary building inspector from May 14 through June 13.
