HOWELL – On June 14, after 25 years and eight months of service to the community, Howell Police Department Sgt. Thomas Weg has worked his last day as a Howell police officer.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege serving with the men and women, both sworn (police officers) and non-sworn staff, here. I wish you all health, happiness and success. God bless you all,” Weg said.
Weg began in 1985 as a Police Explorer – a young person who is considering a career in law enforcement – before becoming a Class I special law enforcement officer. In 1992, he was hired as a 911 telecommunicator. In 1995, Weg became a patrol officer.
Police officials said that during his career with the Howell Police Department, Weg served within the Patrol Division as a field training officer and as an operator on the Monmouth County Emergency Response Team.
“Looking back, I would not change a thing in that respect,” said Weg, whose official retirement date is July 1. He said retirement is “just starting a new chapter.”
“The one thing I learned through the course of my career is that every day there is an opportunity to do some type of good and I thought that was rewarding. Some days obviously turned out a little bit better than others, but every day there is an opportunity to do something good, so I was blessed to be part of that,” he said.
In a message to Weg on its Facebook page, the police department said, “Tom is a lifelong resident of Howell and has honorably served. He can hold his head high as he leaves, knowing he did a great job. Congratulations Sarge!! You are 10-7!! (out of service).”
