The four-year run of winning the award is the longest streak in the cup’s 15-year history. CBA has won the cup 10 times in 15 years. The school previously won the cup in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The Shop Rite Cup is determined by an NJSIAA points system. The NJSIAA rewards schools for high finishes in state-sanctioned events.

By winning state titles in cross-country, golf, indoor track relays, indoor track, outdoor track and swimming, CBA accumulated 201 points, 46 more than the second-place finisher, the Delbarton School. CBA also won state sectional titles in soccer and tennis and advanced to the state final four in ice hockey and lacrosse, all of which contributed to its point total.

In addition, the school earned sportsmanship bonus points for having zero player or coach ejections over all three sports seasons in 2017-18.

“Once again, our student-athletes and coaches have carried on the CBA tradition of excellence, while successfully raising the bar for future Colts to strive for,” said CBA Director of Athletics Vito Chiaravalloti. “It is an honor to yet again win the NJSIAA/ShopRite Cup. It is a reflection of the hard work and commitment by every coach, student-athlete and staff member at CBA. What I am most proud of is how our young men put faith, family, academics and sportsmanship above winning, which truly embodies our Lasallian mission and ideals.”
