Democrats should choose a candidate like RFK

I recently saw an Off-Broadway show entitled “Kennedy-Bobby’s Last Crusade.” I had the privilege of serving as a volunteer staff associate for Sen. Robert Francis Kennedy from 1965 until his assassination in June 1968.

I was pleased the show captured not only the essence of this great man, but the message of hope which he offered for social justice, and as he said to “make better the life of this world.”

The compassion which Sen. Kennedy felt for the poor and the disadvantaged is a message which is most appropriate for today. In its quest for a presidential candidate in 2020, the Democratic Party would do well to choose someone who, like Bobby Kennedy, displays the creative energy needed to bind together our country.

As Sen. Kennedy often said when concluding his speeches, “Some men see the world as it is and ask why; I dream of things that never were and ask why not.”
