SOUTH RIVER–Forfeiting their razors to grow out some scruff for the South River Police Department’s annual No Shave November campaign, officers raised $2,676 for cancer research.

No-Shave November is about embracing hair, which many patients lose during cancer treatment. Money typically spent on razors and shaving during the month is instead donated to charity for cancer research and to aid those fighting cancer battles, according to the police department.

“Through all the scratching and itching of their facial hair, all of our participants were happy to be part of a great opportunity to raise awareness. I’m proud of the staff at the South River Police Department for uniting together to raise money for this important cause,” Chief Mark Tinitigan said in a prepared statement from the police.

Dec. 1 marked the conclusion of the campaign, though donations will still be accepted at no-shave.org/team/srpd.
