Residents may experience some unpleasant odors through the end of December as a result of improvements to the gas collection system at the Middlesex County Landfill, located on Edgeboro Road in East Brunswick.
Certain unfavorable weather conditions may exacerbate the odors at times, according to information provided by the South River Police Department.

The Middlesex County Utilities Authority (MCUA), which operates the landfill, is coordinating the planned capital improvements. The MCUA anticipates that the improvements will result in fewer odor concerns in the future.
