Hopewell Township residents are being advised to lock their cars and take the keys with them.

These advisories are a result of a series of car thefts and car burglaries that occurred in the early morning hours of Jan. 28 in Hopewell Township and Pennington Borough.

Two vehicles were reported stolen from Pennington Borough, which led to a brief pursuit on Pennington Road and I-295 after police observed one of the stolen vehicles.

The chase was called off for safety reasons, but police found a pickup truck on I-295 that had been reported stolen from Tinton Falls and that may have been involved with the stolen vehicles from Pennington Borough.

Meanwhile, small amounts of cash and items that included car keys and ear buds were taken from unlocked cars parked on Baker Way, Jefferson Place, Linden Lane, Woodmere Way, Kings Court, E. Curlis Avenue and Mallard Drive in Hopewell Township and Pennington Borough.

The incidents are under investigation by the Hopewell Township Police Department.
