Each year, the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women sponsors a program to highlight women who have made significant contributions in their professional fields, to women’s causes,or in community endeavors.

Nominations are accepted for Somerset County women who go above and beyond in the following categories: Arts/Entertainment/Sports; Business/Entrepreneur/Information Technology, Education, Environmental Initiatives, Government/Public/Social Service, Hometown Hero, Journalism/Media/Law, Medicine/Health Services and Volunteerism.

All nominees are reviewed by the committee, which then selects one individual in each field to be acknowledged at a dinner sponsored by the commission in March.  This year, two Hillsborough women were chosen as recipients of the award.

Melissa Almendinger, community garden educator at Duke Farms, was selected in the category of Environmental Initiatives and Pamela Borek, Hillsborough Township Clerk, was selected in the category of Government/Public/Social Service.

This program will be held March 29, at The Imperia, located at 1714 Easton Ave., Somerset. A cash bar will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 7 p.m. The cost is $60 per person. Advance reservations are required by March 1; reservations will not be taken at the door.
