Jackson Police Beat, April 3

The Jackson Police Department reported that the following incidents occurred in the township:

• At 12:08 p.m. March 23, officers responded to a residence on Sage Court to investigate a report of a man who kicked in the door to enter a house. Officers located an 18-year-old male, who was known to the residents, arguing with a resident inside the house. Police said the man resisted the officers’ attempt to take him into custody and search him. The resistance continued outside and the man yelled profanities at other individuals. He was charged with third degree burglary, criminal mischief, resisting arrest with force, disorderly conduct and harassment. Police said he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Seaside Heights. The man was processed and lodged in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River. One officer reported a minor injury which was sustained during the arrest.

• At 11:51 p.m. March 23, after conducting a motor vehicle stop with a 2005 Hyundai on South New Prospect Road for observed violations, officers searched the vehicle after the odor of marijuana was detected coming from inside the vehicle. The search resulted in the seizure of a glass jar and plastic containers which contained a substance believed to be raw marijuana, multiple THC oil cartridges, a digital scale, cell phones and a large amount of currency. Police said the 21-year-old male driver was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana dilutant and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued motor vehicle summonses and released on summons pending a court appearance.

• At 2:27 p.m. March 22, a report of shoplifting at a Speedway gas station, Bennetts Mills Road, resulted in a 27-year-old male being charged with shoplifting after he took scratch-off lottery tickets without paying for them, and defiant trespassing for going to the store after he had been informed by store management that he was not wanted on the property.

• At 11:45 p.m. March 22, police received a report of an erratic driver. Officers located the suspect vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop with it on North County Line Road. An investigation resulted in the arrest of the 48-year-old male driver who was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and careless driving.

• At 8:38 p.m. March 23, officers responded to a one-car motor vehicle crash on East Veterans Highway. The officers found the vehicle in the woods. An investigation resulted in the arrest of the 21-year-old male driver who was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and careless driving.
