SAYREVILLE – A corrective action plan has been approved by the Sayreville School District Board of Education in response to a recommendation contained in the district’s 2017-18 audit.

Board members approved the action plan for the comprehensive annual financial report and auditor’s management report, which includes the audit, for the 2017-18 school year on March 19.

In accordance with state law, the governing body of every municipality and school district must have an annual audit of its books, accounts and financial transactions. The school district’s audit was conducted by the firm of Suplee, Clooney & Company.

The recommendation in the audit was that the district’s District Report of Transported Resident Students (DRTRS) be reconciled with the records used for the Application of State School Aid (ASSA).

According to Business Administrator Erin Hill, the auditor’s recommendation means the district’s annual report to the state on where Sayreville students are transported to and from did not match the same report sent on the same day in the district’s application for state aid.

Hill said in order to address the finding, district administrators would go back and review the most recent DRTRS, compare it to the most recent ASSA report and any supporting documentation, and confirm if the software changes they made have resolved the previous discrepancies.

Going forward, Hill said administrators would review the DRTRS and compare it to the ASSA report and any supporting documentation prior to submission and resolve any discrepancies.
