A 27-year-old male from Hamilton Township was recently charged by the Bordentown Township Police Department for the possession of a large quantity of suspected heroin.
Township police officials reported that the suspect in custody was charged following a motor vehicle stop on April 25.
At approximately 4:56 p.m., police officials reported that a township officer conducted a motor vehicle stop of a Nissan Altima for motor vehicle violations on Dunns Mill Road. During the stop, officials said that the officer deployed his narcotics detecting canine, which led to a positive alert and a search was conducted of the vehicle.
Officials said that this vehicle search resulted in the seizure of 214 packets of suspected heroin concealed in a diversion safe-stash can and $316 in cash.
The motorist was then charged with several drug offenses including possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute within a school zone and possession of drug paraphernalia and he was committed to the Burlington County Jail, according to the police.
In response to the charges against the suspect, Township Police Chief Brian Pesce released a statement on the incident and the department’s efforts to crack down on potential drug dealers attempting to conduct their illegal operations in Bordentown.
“The opioid epidemic is well-documented and our department supports those suffering from addiction with our recovery programs and will continue to aggressively target drug dealers who seek to profit from the suffering of others,” Pesce said. “This was an example of excellent police work by Sergeant Burns and should send a strong message to those who think they can peddle drugs in Bordentown Township. You will be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
