Barricaded man in South River dies from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound

SOUTH RIVER – Authorities responded to an armed male barricaded in his home in South River on May 22, who later died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The South River Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Special Operations Response Team responded to the residence after they were alerted that an armed male had barricaded himself in his South River home, according to a joint statement by both entities.

One shot was fired within the home. The unidentified male was pronounced dead at the scene, according to reports.

No shots were fired by law enforcement, officials said.

An autopsy is pending by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office.
