Middletown High School South’s Mark Anselmi wanted to “come up and show out,” he declared during his last meet in New Jersey.

That meet was the 2019 NJSIAA Meet of Champions.

On June 8 at Northern Burlington County Regional High School, Anselmi did just that.

The Middletown South senior jumped a 6-8 in the boys’ high jump final and earned the state title.

He beat 16 other competitors in the final. The next closest finisher posted a distance of 6-6.

Next year, the state champion will join the track and field team at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He said he is nervous but excited for his next chapter.
