OLD BRIDGE – Come November, long-time Republican Mayor Owen Henry will face Democrat David Merwin, who is currently serving as a Ward 1 councilman, for the four-year mayoral term up for grabs this year in Old Bridge.

Henry recorded 1,144 votes over GOP challenger John Milner, who received 170 votes during the primary election on June 4. Milner ran on the Transparency and Accountability, Let’s Win Together slate.

Merwin, who ran on the Middlesex County Democratic Organization slate, collected 1,529 votes over the party challenger and fellow councilman, Mark Razzoli, who received 743 votes. Razzoli ran on the Old Bridge Democrats for Good Government slate.

“I would like to thank all the Republicans who came out to the polls on Tuesday for the primary elections, all the support was very much appreciated,” Henry said. “I’d like to congratulate my running mates and want everyone to know we are all committed and look forward to November. It is important to publicly and personally acknowledge all the candidates, Republicans and Democrats who were on the ballot and commend them for their courage and willingness to run for elected office.”

Merwin said he and his running mates “were humbled by the overwhelming support for our ticket.”

“I want to thank Mark [Razzoli] and his team for running a clean issue oriented campaign,” he said. “It’s now onto November where we will show that eight is enough. I am a proponent of term limits and declare that I will not seek more than two terms. We will focus on re-investing in our town, focusing on our schools and recreation for our children and security for all.”

The election will be held on Nov. 5.
