Rashone Johnson, a Princeton High School physical education teacher, has been tapped to become an assistant principal at Princeton High School.
Johnson will succeed Jessica Baxter, who has been promoted to become Princeton High School principal following the retirement of Principal Gary Snyder.
Johnson was appointed to the assistant principal’s post at Princeton High School by the Princeton Public Schools Board of Education at its June 11 meeting.
Johnson will assume his new duties July 1. He will earn $158,000 per year, including longevity pay. He will be one of three assistant principals at Princeton High School.
Johnson has worked for the Princeton Public Schools for 19 years. In addition to teaching physical education, he is the head wrestling coach and track and field coach at the high school.
He is a graduate of The College of New Jersey, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in corporate fitness. He holds a master’s degree in educational administration from Rider University.
Baxter was especially excited at the prospect of Johnson taking her place as assistant principal. The students have been asking her about the person who will replace her, she said.
With Johnson in the assistant principal’s post, “I know the students will be taken care of,” Baxter said. He works well with the students and he is a problem solver, she said.
Johnson, in turn, thanked the school board for giving him the opportunity to become an administrator. He said he is “really excited” and he can’t wait to get started.
Becoming an assistant principal means he will be able to reach out to more students and to have a greater impact, Johnson said.
At the same time, the promotion means he will have to give up coaching, which is “bittersweet,” he said. He told his wrestling and track and field teams about his impending promotion.
“I will always be ‘Coach Johnson’ – just don’t end up in my office,” he said with a smile.
