South River Police Department seeks alternate route candidates

The South River Police Department is seeking alternate route candidates for the position of full time police officer.

Applications and personal history questionnaires can be picked up at the South River Police Department Records Bureau, 61 Main St., South River, on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They must be returned by 4 p.m. on July 10.

Alternate route applicants must have completed, prior to appointment, a police training course certified by the New Jersey Police Training Commission and must have passed and received PT certification from the respective police academy. In addition, applicants must be able to successfully pass an oral examination, medical and psychological examinations and an extensive background investigation.

Additional employment requirements: must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of New Jersey; must be ages 21-35; must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license; and must be a high school graduate or GED equivalent.

Applicants will also be required to provide a photocopy of his/her valid driver’s license and a recent passport sized photo (2 x 2-3/4 inches).
