Business nominees sought in East Windsor

Wanted: Nominations of East Windsor Township businesses that have contributed to the community.

That’s what East Windsor Township officials are seeking for the township’s 2019 Business Awards program. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 20.

The purpose of the annual program is to recognize local businesses that have made special efforts to improve or contribute to East Windsor Township, according to Mayor Janice S. Mironov.

There are three categories – Business Beautification, Community Service and Community Enhancement, Mayor Mironov explained .

“Business Beautification” is about creating an attractive appearance through landscaping, flowers and other enhancements to a business’s building and site.

“Community Service” means providing for community contributions and service.

“Community Enhancement” is providing for any community value-added aspect related to the business, such as extraordinary job creation or an unusual or special product or opportunity.

Green and sustainable practices, green products, energy conservation, and the reduction of waste and energy consumption will be given more weight in considering the award winners.

“The Business Awards program was created to give well-deserved recognition to businesses which have made special efforts to enhance our community,” Mayor Mironov said.

“It also highlights the importance our community places on local business owners and operators,” she said.

Past award winners for the Beautification Award include the East Windsor Village shopping center on Princeton-Hightstown Road. Kimco Realty, which owns the shopping center, was recognized for its on-going enhancements to the grounds and landscaping.

Last year, the Community Service Award was given to Berkshire Bank for its support – through the Berkshire Bank Foundation – of the township’s summer concert series, the Easter egg hunt and the Independence Day/Fourth of July celebration.

Also last year, the Exeter Property Group received the Community Enhancement Award for redeveloping the former National Lead site on Wyckoff Mills Road. Modway Furniture, which is a major distributor of furniture and office furnishings, moved into a new 634,000-square-foot building on the site.

Other winners of the Community Enhancement Award include Shiseido America, which was recognized for its green and sustainable measures. The company has installed rooftop and ground-based solar panels, for example.
