The term of Republican Mayor Kennedy O’Brien will conclude at the end of the year. O’Brien, who has served as mayor since 2000 and has held the position longer than any other official in Sayreville, is not seeking re-election.

Running for the four-year term as mayor are Democrat Victoria Kilpatrick and Republican Arthur Rittenhouse. Kilpatrick recorded 3,545 votes while Rittenhouse gained 3,578 votes.

Two Democrats and two Republicans are seeking two available three-year terms on the Borough Council in Sayreville this year.

The terms of Democrats Dave McGill and Daniel Buchanan will expire at the end of the year. Buchanan is not seeking re-election.

For the council terms, the Democratic candidates are McGill and Michele Cassidy Maher, while the Republican candidates are Christian Hibinski and Donna Roberts.

Roberts registered 3,549 votes, Maher collected 3,545 votes, McGill received 3,480 votes and Hibinski earned 3,412 votes.

Election results from Nov. 5 are according to the Middlesex County Board of Elections and are unofficial until certified.
