The first police officer on the scene saw smoke coming from the front door of the three-story house.

Firefighters from the Hopewell Fire Department, along with firefighters from Hopewell Township and surrounding towns, arrived and put out the fire. The house sustained fire, smoke and water damage, and was declared uninhabitable.

Firefighters from the Union Fire Company, the Pennington Fire Company, Princeton Fire Department, Montgomery Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2 and Hopewell Valley Emergency services responded. The Hopewell Fire Department Emergency Medical Unit also responded.

The cause of the fire, which is under investigation by the Hopewell Township Police Department and the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
