East Windsor awarded grant for road improvements

Exeter Road and surrounding streets will be repaved, thanks to a state grant that has been awarded to East Windsor Township.

East Windsor Township has been awarded $600,361 from the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s FY 2020 municipal aid program for improvements to streets off Exeter Road, East Windsor Township Mayor Janice S. Mironov said.

The money will be used to repave Exeter Road, Cornwall Drive, Berkshire Drive, Stanford Court and Surrey Lane, Mironov said. Related improvements, such as concrete curbs, driveway aprons, handicap ramps and drainage, are included.

“We are very appreciative to receive this state grant funding to support our local efforts to improve important roadways in East Windsor Township,” Mironov said.

The roads in the residential neighborhood are in “extremely” deteriorated condition and are very much in need of repairs and improvements, the mayor said.

“These state grant funds are an important resource in our efforts to undertake needed local roadway improvements for our residents in East Windsor Township,” Mironov said.

If it were not for the state grant, the township would have had to pay for the milling and overlay of the streets and the associated improvements out of municipal tax dollars, she said.

This grant is the latest in a series of grants for road improvements, Mironov said.

East Windsor Township received a grant for $393,575 to repave Dutch Neck Road and Morrison Avenue, as well as a $410,000 grant for Old Cranbury Road and a grant for $391,000 for Oak Creek Road in 2018.

The township received a grant for $335,000 to improve Brooktree Road and Wiltshire Drive in 2017, and $260,000 for Probasco Road improvements in 2016, Mironov said.

East Windsor Township repaved Dorchester Drive from Dutch Neck Road to the West Windsor Township border in 2015, thanks to a $300,000 state grant, she said.

In 2014, Hickory Corner Road from Dutch Neck Road to Dorchester Drive was resurfaced through a $250,000 state grant, Mironov said.
