SPOTSWOOD–By providing programs from exercise training to nutrition classes, the Spotswood Office on Aging and Senior Center’s Healthy Bones program seeks to help patrons at risk for osteoporosis.
Morell said the free Healthy Bones program will be offered at the Spotswood Senior Center through Parker’s Center for Healthy Aging.
“Project Healthy Bones is an evidence-based educational and exercise program for people at risk for osteoporosis,” Morell said. “Strength training exercises will target the larger muscle groups to improve strength, balance, bone health and flexibility.”
Morell said the 24-week program will provide education on the importance of exercise, nutrition, safety, drug therapy and lifestyle factors.
“Initial screenings will be conducted to support the current research program with the New Jersey Department of Aging, Rutgers University and the Interagency Council on Osteoporosis to share the benefits of the program on day one and day 24 for physical improvements.”
Morell said the class will be on Tuesdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Spotswood Office on Aging and Senior Center, located at 1 Arlington Ave.
Weights will be provided. Waivers from the participants’ physician and release forms are required, according to Morell.
