UPPER FREEHOLD – The members of the Township Committee in Upper Freehold Township have voted to keep their mayor and deputy mayor from 2019 in place for 2020.
At the governing body’s annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 7, Committeeman Stephen Alexander, who served as mayor in 2019, was elected by his fellow committee members to serve as mayor for 2020.
In Upper Freehold’s form of government, the mayor is not directly elected by the public. The mayor is selected by the members of the governing body each January to serve a one-year term.
Alexander, an attorney, joined the Township Committee in 2004. He is the longest-serving member of the governing body.
Elected to serve as deputy mayor for 2020 was Committeewoman LoriSue Mount, who joined the committee in 2008 and served as deputy mayor in 2019.
The elections for mayor and deputy mayor were held after Mount and Stanley Moslowski, the winning candidates in the November 2019 municipal election, were sworn in to begin serving new three-year terms on the committee.
Republicans hold all five seats on the governing body. Serving with Alexander, Mount and Moslowski are Robert Faber and Dr. Robert Frascella.
