Monroe Senior Center open for medical equipment charging as power restoration continues after Tropical Storm Isaias

MONROE – As power restoration continues after Tropical Storm Isaias, the Monroe Senior Center is open for residents who need to charge any type of medical equipment or a medical situation that requires electricity.

JCP&L is reporting more than 14,000 outages in the township this morning, according to the Monroe Township Office of Emergency Management (OEM) on Aug. 5, adding the utility company has deemed the outages as a “multi-day outage” situation throughout the state. Township officials are communicating with JCP&L to expedite repairs to the extent possible, according to the statement.

The Monroe Senior Center at 12 Halsey Reed Road is open for residents with any type of medical equipment or medical situation that requires electricity and needs to be charged. Wear a mask and bring all charging cords.

The Monroe Township Public Library is closed due to the power outages.

There were a number of road closures as of 8:30 a.m. including Perrineville Road from Dey Grove to Route 33, Schoolhouse Road from Perrineville to Buckelew, Matchaponix Avenue, Spotswood Gravel Hill to Spotswood Englishtown, Federal Road from Perrineville to England Road, South Middlesex Boulevard, Mounts Mills from Sarah Land to Old Bridge Englishtown and Monroe Boulevard.

There are also a number of traffic signals out including Applegarth and Forsgate Drive, Applegarth and Prospect Plains, Applegarth and Cranbury Half Acre, Perrineville and Schoolhouse, Perrineville and Route 33, Prospect Plains and Half Acre Road, Buckelew and Schoolhouse Road, Buckelew and Hoffman Station, Buckelew and Tracey Station, Spotswood Englishtown and Matchaponix, Applegarth and Route 33 and Applegarth and Clearbrook.

Monroe OEM will send updates when additional information is available from JCP&L.
