MILLSTONE – A pair of contracts totaling $877,654 have been approved by the Township Committee for the second phase of work at the new Millstone Park.
During a meeting on Aug. 19, committee members authorized contracts for the second phase of work at Millstone Park, a 186-acre recreation facility being developed on Red Valley Road in Millstone Township.
One resolution awarded a $488,140 contract to P.M. Construction for multipurpose field improvements. A second resolution awarded a $389,514 contract to Gary Kubiak and Son Electric Inc. for baseball field lighting.
The contracts were awarded on the recommendation of Township Engineer Matt Shafai to the lowest bidders.
For the multipurpose field improvements, in addition to the winning bid submitted by P.M. Construction, the Earle Asphalt Company bid $675,113; Shore Top Construction Corp. bid $609,995; and Precise Construction Inc. bid $597,348, according to the resolution.
For the baseball field lighting, in addition to the winning bid submitted by Gary Kubiak and Son Electric, Quality Electrical Construction Co. bid $437,000; and Fai-gon Electrical Contractors bid $424,000, according to the resolution.
The development of Millstone Park has been ongoing since 2016. Earlier this year, municipal officials declared the first phase of the project has been completed, although the park has not yet been opened to the public.
The park will have nine general purpose fields (six with lights), restrooms, a kitchen serving facility, a trail that can be used for walking, jogging and horseback riding, a playground, and a boat-accessible pond that can be used for fishing and irrigation.
In other business, officials approved the installation of security systems at five municipal properties in an amount not to exceed $115,527.
Committee members authorized a contract with Net Q for the labor and installation of security systems at the municipal courthouse, at Brandywine Park, at the community center, at Millstone Park and at Wagner Farm Park.
Funding will be provided by a bond ordinance that was adopted in 2019, according to a resolution. The ordinance provided an appropriation of $185,000 for technology and safety improvements in Millstone Township.
Municipal officials have said the security systems are being installed in response to vandalism and misuse at local parks.
