MILLTOWN – Anyone who is from Milltown and the surrounding area knows The Milltown Ice Cream Depot. That’s what it says on the establishment’s Facebook page, and it seems to ring true.

The place has been a fixture in the community for many years along South Main Street, as has the owner, Joan Trent, who passed away May 16. She was 74 years old.

People from the community have known her to be someone who was always willing to help.

“Joan was the kindest, most generous person with a heart of gold,” wrote one local resident.

She was a member and elder of the Presbyterian Church of Jamesburg and served as president and secretary for the Milltown Lions Club.

Trent was the owner of the Milltown Ice Cream Depot for the past 25 years.

“Such a lovely person who cared about every single customer at the Milltown Ice Cream Depot,“ wrote another local resident, “an icon and legend in Milltown and tremendous loss for the community – everyone loved her and she’ll be missed!”
