Republicans lead Democrats in ward seats for Old Bridge Council

There were elections for the six, four-year term ward seats on the municipal governing body for Old Bridge on Nov. 2.

The race is contested.

Ward 1 – The candidates are Democratic incumbent David Merwin and Republican Kevin J. Garcia, a newcomer.

As of Nov. 3, Garcia, with 1,650 votes, leads Merwin with 1,528 votes.

Ward 2 – The candidates are Republican incumbent Erik DePalma and Democrat Peter Shearer, a newcomer.

As of Nov. 3, DePalma, with 1,750 votes, or 61.95%, is holding on to his seat so far over Shearer, with 1,073 votes, or 37.98%. There are two write-in votes.

Ward 3 – The candidates are Democrat Kiran Desai and Republican Enid Crespo, both newcomers.

As of Nov. 3, Crespo, with 996 votes, or 50.25%, leads Desai, with 984 votes, or 49.65%. There are two write-in votes.

Ward 4 – The candidates are Republican incumbent Mark Razzoli and Democrat Jill DeCaro.

As of Nov. 3, Razzoli, with 1,420 votes, or 52.13%, is holding on to his seat so far over DeCaro, with 1,303 votes, or 47.83%.

Ward 5 – The candidates are Republican incumbent Anthony “Tony” Paskitti and Democrat Lance Hilfman.

As of Nov. 3, Paskitti, with 2,253 votes, or 65.15%, is holding on to his seat so far over Hilfman, with 1,203 votes, or 34.79%. There are two write-in votes.

Ward 6 – The candidates are Republican incumbent John E. Murphy III and Democrat Nina Jochnowitz, a newcomer.

As of Nov. 3, Murphy III, with 1,699 votes, or 61.12%, is holding on to his seat so far over Jochnowitz, with 1,079 votes, or 38.81%.

The results reflect what has been posted online by the Middlesex County Clerk’s Office at this time. The results are not final and it is not known when the results will be final.

The results of the election will remain unofficial until they are certified.
