Millstone officials adopt ordinance to fund capital improvements

MILLSTONE – The members of the Township Committee have appropriated $300,000 toward capital improvements in Millstone Township.

During a meeting on June 15, committee members adopted an ordinance which will provide $300,000 to pay for improvements to a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system; renovations at municipal buildings, park improvements, security cameras and lighting on municipal properties; and the acquisition of public works equipment.

The $300,000 was appropriated through the township’s capital improvement fund, according to the ordinance.

In other business, the committee members granted a two-year mining permit to Preston Pit Inc./Preston Pit II (formerly Sahara Sands). The permit for the sand mine will be effective from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2024. If work at the sand mine is not completed by the permit’s end, representatives of the company will have to seek a new permit.

During a meeting on June 1, the committee members passed three resolutions authorizing shared services agreements between the township and the Millstone Township K-8 School District Board of Education for equipment/vehicle maintenance, uploading recordings of school board meetings to the municipal website, and HVAC and electrical maintenance.

According to the terms of the shared services agreement for equipment and vehicle maintenance, the school board will provide maintenance for equipment and vehicles owned by the township. The agreement will be effective from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023, at an hourly rate of $60.

The shared services agreement to upload school board meetings to the municipal website will be at a cost not to exceed $35 each to the board. The agreement will be effective through June 30, 2023.

According to the terms of the shared services agreement for HVAC and electrical maintenance, the school board will provide those services at facilities owned by the township. The agreement will be effective from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.

Finally, committee members appointed Travis Lamberson as a fire protection sub-code official for a term that will run from June 5, 2022 through June 4, 2026.
