SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Shree Swaminarayan Temple – Vadtal Dham was filled with fun and excitement as the Indo-American Cultural Foundation of Central Jersey came together to celebrate India’s 75th Independence Day.
The patriotic celebration was held on Aug. 20 and was free and open to the public. Approximately 250 people attended the event, according to a press release through the Indo-American Cultural Foundation of Central Jersey (IACFNJ).
IACFNJ President Dr. Tushar Patel’s welcomed the attendees reminding them to remember the freedom fighters who sacrificed India’s independence, followed by an Indian flag hoisting by Guest of Honor Rajpal Bath, aide to Gov. Phil Murphy along with IACFNJ committee members and temple management.
The celebration included cultural activities, traditional Indian and patriotic dance performances, a DJ, live music/singing and authentic Indian food.
In his address to the audience Bath congratulated everyone and the organizers, kids and parents for a wonderful program. Bath mentioned that he is proud to be a part of vibrant Indian American community in New Jersey and proud to represent Asian American and Pacific Islander communities and always help to resolve any issues.
Middlesex County Commissioner Deputy Director Shanti Narra expressed her sincere gratitude and congratulated the Indian American community and the children and parents who have “become part of our heritage and culture in Middlesex County.”
State Sen. Andrew Zwicker and Assemblymen Roy Freiman and Sadaf Jaffer (all D-16) awarded a resolution to IACFNJ in honor of their “meritorious record of service and commitment to promote culture and heritage and celebrate cultural diversity.”
IACFNJ awarded all participants in the celebration with a Certificate of Appreciation.
The nonprofit organization based in the Dayton section of South Brunswick has been a leader in promoting South Asian culture and value the diversity to newer generation by organizing many activities for the past more than 15 years in Central Jersey. IACFNJ organizes a summer picnic, Navratri Garba, and cultural events to raise funds to support the local organizations and Diwali and Christmas celebrations. The next IACFNJ mega event will be Navratri Garba on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at South Brunswick High School.
