East Windsor police: Newark man in possession of illegal handgun

A Newark man was charged with weapons offenses following a traffic stop on Route 130, according to the East Windsor Police Department.

The 23-year-old man was stopped by police for weaving and improper use of the car’s high beam headlights March 6, police said.

During the investigation, the man was allegedly found to be in possession of an illegal handgun, police said, which led to the charges of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and certain persons not to possess weapons.

He was also charged with failure to maintain lane, improper use of high beams, unclear license plates, failure to exhibit a driver’s license and failure to exhibit an insurance card, police said.

He was processed and taken to the Mercer County Correction Center.
