Lawrenceville School is finishing its Wellness Week, a special event from January 9 to January 16, 2025.
The week focuses on helping students and staff improve their physical and mental health through various activities, workshops, and events.
In essence, the goal is to encourage everyone to take care of themselves in a balanced and thoughtful way.
One of the main features of the week is its 40 workshops, each designed to provide practical knowledge and interactive experiences.
Students, teachers, and community members led sessions on stress-relief yoga, healthy cooking, creative journaling, and mindfulness practices.
The goal was to equip participants with useful skills and simple ideas they could easily incorporate into their daily routines to improve their well-being.
The Wellness Fair, held on January 11 in the Abbott Dining Hall, was a big success.
It brought together students and staff to explore resources and try wellness activities.
The fair had booths with local wellness organizations, healthy snacks, and tips for staying balanced.
The school’s counseling team also advised on managing stress and building resilience.
Another highlight of the week was a community meal on January 13 in the Lavino Field House.
Students and staff shared a healthy meal together and celebrated the importance of connecting as a community.
After the meal, everyone enjoyed a lively dance that added a fun and active element to the week.
A major highlight during Wellness Week was a talk by Chris Herren, a former professional basketball player and wellness advocate.
He shared his personal story about overcoming substance use and finding a healthier way to live.
The event, held on January 12 at the Kirby Arts Center, also included a screening of his documentary Unguarded.
It attracted more than 500 attendees and inspired the audience to think more deeply about wellness and mental health.
Nevertheless, the success of Wellness Week owes much to the Student Wellness Council’s hard work.
Under the guidance of Wellness Representative Naija King ’25, they planned activities that were fun and meaningful for students.
Their determination showed throughout the week, from organizing workshops to running the Wellness Fair.
As Wellness Week ends on January 16, the school has shown how much it cares about helping everyone focus on health and well-being.
