Recognizing two decades of service and commitment, Monmouth Regional High School’s Board of Education President Jonathan Cohen received the “Milestone Award.”

The award was provided by the New Jersey Boards Association, which is an association of the boards of education throughout the state, according to Cohen.

Cohen was presented with the award on Aug. 8 during the board’s monthly meeting, at Eatontown’s Borough Hall, located 47 Broad St.

“It is a nice recognition of my service to the students and community,” Cohen said.

Having first been elected to the board in 1997, Cohen has been the president of the board for the past three years, according to Cohen.

“I was on the Tinton Falls Grammar School Board of Education when a opening came on the Monmouth Regional High School Board of Education and my daughter was entering high school, so I went over to [the high school]. Actually I was on both boards for the first couple years, then only on the high school’s board. I wanted to continue the great things [the high school] was doing,” Cohen said.

Since 1956, Cohen has been a resident of Tinton Falls who worked at the high school as a para professional from 1975 to 1977. He also has teaching certifications in social studies and English, according to Cohen.

“I have been the chairman of the Tinton Falls Environmental Commission for almost 30 years. I am currently the Liaison for the Borough of Tinton Falls to the FMERA Environmental Staff Advisory Committee. I am also on the board of directors of the Crawford House in Tinton Falls,” Cohen said.

Once his current term on the board expires in 2018, Cohen said that he will run for another term.
