Howell police find crack cocaine during home search

HOWELL – A search of a home in the Freewood Acres section of Howell resulted in several arrests and the location of crack cocaine.

The search was conducted by members of the Howell Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit, according to police.

On Aug. 30, members of the unit – Capt. Thomas Rizzo, Detective Sgt. Jack Headley, K-9 Sgt. Nick Bondarew, Detective Terrence Hurley and Detective Mike Pavlick – executed a search warrant at a home on West 6th Street.

The investigation, which was led by Hurley, lasted for two months and focused on street-level sales of crack cocaine, according to police.

As they executed the search warrant, the officers found several individuals at the home, including two men who attempted to leave the area in a vehicle, but were stopped.

A 64-year-old male and a 29-year-old male, both of West 6th Street, were apprehended without incident. Police said the 29-year old man was found to be in possession of several pieces of crack cocaine concealed in his underwear.

A search of the residence was conducted and detectives located and seized several other pieces of crack cocaine, various prescription and narcotic medications, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and more than $12,000 in cash.

The 64-year-old man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and released on a criminal summons.

The 29-year-old man was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of controlled substances which includes three different counts for the controlled prescription narcotics, and possession of marijuana. He was processed and released on a criminal summons.
