SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Superintendent of Schools Scott Feder began the New Year by reflecting on the first six months of his service.

In order to distribute his learnings, Feder drafted three resolutions for 2018 that he shared with students, staff and parents of the South Brunswick School District.

Resolution No. 1 is to personally visit the schools to see activities and programs personally.

“While I have heard from administrators, board members and parents about the wonderful education that students receive in South Brunswick, I have struggled to get out to the buildings to see it in action. I have made attempts, all of which continue to be thwarted by this issue or that issue. Not acceptable. So, I am going to use this New Year’s resolution to get out from Black Horse Lane, and while I still expect I will hear about the great things that occur, I will be able to see them firsthand and join in the wonder that is the learning in South Brunswick schools,” he said.

Resolution No. 2 is to make communication stronger.

“My New Year’s resolution is to identify the best ways to push out information to the community and to staff that is clear, concise and shares the most valuable information that our people need. One goal we are working on now is a full revamping of the district website, which we expect to be more intuitive for families and staff, be mobile-friendly and provide clear and easy to locate information, inclusive of celebrating those great things that happen in the schools,” he said.

Resolution No. 3 is to advance the district.

“I continue to hear that we have teachers, students and administrators that want to try new things, be innovative and challenge certain status quos. I have been conservative in my first year, and while I am not going to move us into the Wild Wild West, I am highly interested in hearing of new ideas and innovations and supporting those hopes and dreams imagined for our programs. My resolution is to work through this budget to identify the monies that can be efficiently applied to these ideas and dreams so that dreams can become realities. I don’t know the exact pathway to making this happen, but I know the administration is committed to see this to fruition. For now, I have encouraged all to dream big and come prepared into 2018 to innovate and create those things that are believed to be best for our students,” he said.

Feder said he wants to focus on making the aforementioned resolutions his “new normal.”

“I believe this district has the people to make any positive possibility a reality. I am committed to lend support in all that is good for our kids,” he said.
