Fred Tagliarini took his oath of office and will now serve in his third term as the mayor of Aberdeen Township.

Tagliarini and council members Margaret Montone and Joseph Martucci were sworn in by Rep. Frank Pallone Jr (D-Monmouth, Middlesex) when Aberdeen’s governing body held its reorganization meeting on Jan. 6 at Aberdeen Town Hall.

Montone will serve her third term and Martucci will be in his second term on the council this year.

Also during the meeting, Montone nominated Councilman Robert Swindle to become the next Deputy Mayor. That nomination of Swindle was unanimously approved by the council members.

Swindle, who has served on the council since 2012, will assume the role from Montone, who served in that capacity from 2012 to 2014 and 2016 to 2017.

“Our agenda is formidable, but this council has proven that we are all up to the task,” Tagliarini said.

“We will continue to work in a bipartisan manner with our new governor, state elected officials and our freeholders, for that is the way to accomplish goals and the way government should work. We could not move ‘Aberdeen Forward’ in any other way,” Tagliarini said.

In other business, the council approved a resolution appointing J. Sheldon Cohen of the firm DeCotiis, FitzPatrick and Cole as the township attorney for the year 2018, according to Township Manager Holly Reycraft.

The council also approved a resolution appointing William G. McGuinn of the firm Hoagland, Longo, Moran Dunst and Doukas as the municipal prosecutor for the year 2018, according to Reycraft.

Raymond S. Santiago was appointed Public Defender for the year 2018 by the council approving a resolution, according to Reycraft.
