When police arrived at the scene, officials said they found Stephens with multiple upper-body stab wounds. Witnesses said Stephens stumbled into the truck stop’s store before collapsing as a result of his injuries.

Following an investigation, police alleged that Christopher Teeter, 41, of Wilmington, North Carolina, committed the stabbing when an argument with Stephens turned violent. Officials said the two men are co-workers.

Emergency personnel tended to Stephens’ wounds before transporting him to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. Once at the hospital’s trauma unit, he was immediately taken in for emergency surgery. He was listed in critical condition.

Teeter has been charged with criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, and committed to the Burlington County Jail. He will face an upcoming detention hearing in the Superior Court located in Mount Holly.

Officials with the Bordentown Township Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit said an investigation into the altercation is still ongoing.

Anyone with information that may assist authorities with the investigation is asked to call the Bordentown Township Police at 609-298-4300 or Burlington County Central Communications at 609-265-7113.
