A 15-year-old Hopewell Valley Central High School student is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault and resisting arrest, following a scuffle at the high school that also put the building into a temporary freeze shortly after 1:30 p.m. Oct. 18.

Hopewell Township police officers were called to the high school at 1:47 p.m. Oct. 18 to investigate a report that a student had physically assaulted several school employees, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.

The police officers determined that the boy had assaulted the employees, and attempted to put him under arrest. The boy resisted and punched one police officer in the face and also spit at another police officer and school staff members, police said.

The boy will be charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault against a police officer and school employees, and with resisting arrest, police said. The charges will be forwarded to the Mercer County Family Court for review.

During the incident, Hopewell Valley Central High School was put into a temporary building freeze. This means classes could continue, but foot traffic in the hallways would be restricted. The building freeze was lifted after the boy was taken into custody.
