Hillsborough man convicted in North Brunswick bank robbery

A 51-year-old man was convicted of a bank robbery that took place in North Brunswick in January 2017.

Quintin Watson of Hillsborough was found guilty by a jury on Nov. 14 for the Jan. 14, 2017, robbery of the Garden State Community Bank in North Brunswick, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey.

Watson is facing a life sentence, without the possibility of parole, subject to the New Jersey Three Strikes Law. Watson has two prior bank robbery convictions: 1987 in St. Louis, Missouri, and 2006 in Madison County, New York, according to the statement.

He is scheduled to be sentenced in New Brunswick Superior Court on Jan. 7.

During a two-day trial in New Brunswick before Superior Court Judge Benjamin S. Bucca Jr., Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Russell Curley presented evidence and testimony showing the defendant entered the Garden State Community Bank in North Brunswick, presented a note to the teller, demanded money, and left the bank with $5,772, according to the statement.

Watson was charged on Nov. 3, 2017, with robbery in the second degree, while he was in custody in Somerset County for three additional bank robberies. He is currently facing three indictments, stemming from bank robberies, in Somerset and Warren counties in New Jersey, and Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
