Rabid raccoon found in Monroe

MONROE – A raccoon has tested positive for rabies in the vicinity of South Shore Boulevard and 10th Street in Monroe.

This 13th rabid animal reported within Middlesex County for 2018 and the third rabid animal in Monroe, according to information provided by the Middlesex County Office of Health Services.

The animal control officer for Monroe responded to a property on Dec. 10 where a raccoon was killed by pet dog at a resident’s home. The raccoon was sent to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory for testing. It was reported on Dec. 12 that the animal tested positive for rabies. There were no known human exposures and one domestic animal exposure to the raccoon, according to the statement.
