Toms River accepts Municipal Alliance Grant

The Toms River Township Council voted unanimously to pass a resolution to receive a $55,000 Municipal Alliance Grant.

On Dec. 26, Council President Brian Kubiel, Councilman Maurice Hill, Councilwoman Laurie Huryk, Councilwoman Maria Maruca, Councilman Daniel Rodrick and Councilman Terrance Turnbach voted to pass the resolution.

Council Vice President George Wittmann was absent from the meeting.

The Toms River Municipal Alliance coordinates substance abuse prevention programs, activities and events throughout the year for community members of all ages.  The Alliance often partners with the Toms River District schools, The Township’s Department of Youth Services and Senior Center, Ocean’s Harbor House, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County, Children’s Home Society and the Family Success Center, the Ocean County Health Department, Barnabas Health, Prevention First, and other agencies and organizations for the same purpose,” Township Chief Financial Officer Sharon Smith said.

The grant is for the fiscal year of 2020. It will go from July 1, 2019 to Jun. 30, 2020.

There are two township matches required on this $55,162 grant, a cash match (25 percent) of $13,790.50 and an in-kind match (75 percent) of $41,371.50.

The funds have already been awarded by the county. The resolution was merely a formality the Township must execute prior to receiving funds. We receive this grant every year,” Smith said.

She said the Toms River Municipal Alliance networks with numerous social service, health care, government, non-profit and private agencies in its mission.

“Further community support is offered with information and referrals on substance abuse and related issues by calling the Municipal Alliance office directly,” Smith said.
