East Brunswick and Woodbridge police charge Linden man for multiple crimes

EAST BRUNSWICK–The East Brunswick Police Department and the Woodbridge Police Department both charged a 58-year-old man from Linden for allegedly committing multiple crimes originating from two incidents on March 10.

Detectives from the East Brunswick and Woodbridge charged the man on March 12, according to police.

The East Brunswick police charged the man with carjacking, aggravated assault, eluding and theft after he reportedly forcibly removed a female from her vehicle at the Walmart in East Brunswick and allegedly stole her vehicle, according to police.

Patrol units observed the man traveling onto the New Jersey Turnpike but were unable to apprehend him after a short pursuit. The man then traveled to Woodbridge, where he allegedly telephoned a bomb threat and shots fired at a Walmart in Woodbridge, according to police.

Shortly thereafter, the man allegedly committed an armed robbery of a pharmacy on New Brunswick Avenue in Woodbridge. Information developed by both departments led them to the Studio 6 in East Brunswick where the man has been staying, according to police.

Officers arrested the suspect on an outstanding warrant and he was transported to the East Brunswick Police Department. Once at headquarters, the man was interviewed by both departments and he reportedly admitted to the incidents in both jurisdictions, according to police.

In addition to the charges in East Brunswick, the man was charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, receiving stolen property, and causing a false public alarm and theft, according to police.

The was remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center, according to police.
