NORTH BRUNSWICK – Due to the retirements of Scott Henry and Andrew Heuer, the North Brunswick Police Department welcomed two military veterans as the newest members of the department.

Joel Santana and Jeffrey Dominguez were sworn in during the North Brunswick Township Council meeting on April 1.

Both officers are products of the North Brunswick school system, are bilingual in Spanish and English, and previously worked for the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office, according to Police Director Kenneth McCormick.

“Tonight is especially meaningful for me given the depth of background these two candidates and officers we are swearing in bring us,” Mayor Francis “Mac” Womack said.

Santana was a sergeant squad leader for the U.S. Marine Corps, and served two tours in Kuwait and Iraq. He has an Associate’s of Science in Homeland Security from Middlesex County College.

He thanked the support system of his family, and the community.

Dominguez is a U.S. Navy veteran, having served aboard the USS Nassau in the Gulf of Aden and aboard the USS Bush in the Arabian Sea.

He earned an associate’s degree in applied science in network systems administration from DeVry University.

“This is an honor. I’m happy to be in this community. I grew up here. It’s an honor,” he said.
