EAST WINDSOR — A 73-year-old woman was beaten to death Tuesday, and police are searching for a family member who is missing and who may have information about the incident, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
Safia Diwan, 73, was found dead in a front office in a home on Mozart Court shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, said a spokeswoman for the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. Police discovered the body after responding to a 911 call.
The preliminary assessment of her injury suggests she was bludgeoned, and an autopsy was scheduled for today, Wednesday. There was no sign of forced entry to the home, the spokeswoman said.
Police are attempting to locate Tasneem Diwan, 45, who lives in the house and is missing. She is believed to be driving a green 2000 Nissan Quest minivan, with a New Jersey license plate JYY-16P.
Anyone who sees Ms. Diwan is urged to call police, and not to approach her.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Mercer County Homicide Task Force at 609-610-6694, the East Windsor Township Police Department at 609-448-5678, or the Trenton Crime Stoppers tip line at 609-278-8477.
Those wishing to text a tip can send a message labeled TCSTIPS to Trenton Crime Stoppers at 274637.
