LAWRENCE — A Trenton man who walked into the CVS Pharmacy on Brunswick Pike, near Cherry Tree Lane, just as the store was closing, has been charged with burglary, theft and possession of burglar’s tools, according to the Lawrence Township Police Department.
Reginald R. McCoy, 58, of Trenton, entered the store around 10 p.m. Feb. 23. A neighbor who lives near the store called police and reported seeing a man walking around outside the business with a bicycle. He hid the bicycle and entered the store, but he did not come out of the store.
Around the same time, police received a call from the store’s alarm company that there was someone moving around inside the store. When police arrived, they saw a man — later identified as Mr. McCoy — walking around in the store.
Mr. McCoy was observed sitting on a box of windshield wiper fluid, eating a candy bar and drinking a bottle of soda, police said. He was apprehended inside the store, where it was discovered that he had an assortment of cosmetics and candy, worth a combined $121.72, in his possession.
The store manager told police she did not see him enter the store, nor did she notice him when she checked the store before she closed it for the night and left.
Mr. McCoy was also found to have two outstanding warrants, totaling $2,700, from Hamilton and West Windsor townships, and was taken to the Mercer County Corrections Center.
