WEST WINDSOR: New York man dies in early morning crash on Route 1

A motorist traveling on Route 1 north in West Windsor early Wednesday morning died of his injuries after leaving the road and hitting trees with his van, police said in adding they are investigating whether he hit or swerved to avoid a tire left in the road by a tractor trailer., Gerard W. Haburay, 63, of New York, was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His family was notified, police said., West Windsor Police and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the accident that occurred around 12:39 a.m. on Route 1, a little north of Quarkerbridge Road, police said. Mr. Haburay was traveling alone in his Dodge van, police said, when he left the road and hit the trees., Police said Wednesday that authorities have not concluded whether he had hit the tire or had swerved to avoid it. The driver of the tractor trailer remained at the scene, police said., So far, no charges have been filed, police said., Anyone who witnessed the accident was asked to call West Windsor Police Sgt. Danny Mohr or Officer Frank Sabatino at 609-799-1222.
